The Lonely Folk

fox to his den
he finds his bed stumbling
and his lover awakes
she asked, “has the whiskey restored your faith?”

she said, “come here, ease your mind.
leave the shadows behind…

…was it the farmer again?
gave wings to your wallowing?”
he said, “he killed all my kin!
he’s due for a reckoning!”

he cried, “their faces are fading-
i drink to remember them!”

she said, “come here, ease your mind.
leave the shadows behind.”

the past has long been buried with the leaves
oh, release all the mourning- rest by me

she said, “come here, ease your mind.
leave the shadows behind…”

oh, now here below,
we are the lonely folk
